How to Make Your Eyeliner Stay All Day Long

HOW TO PREVENT YOUR EYELINER FROM RUNNING How to make your eyeliner stay on all day?

Eyeliner is one of the essential items that should be in your makeup bag as it works in conjunction with your mascara to create large, beautiful eyes that stand out and make a statement without saying a word. But as with any makeup, eyeliner tends to come off or fade at some stage during the day or night, and depending on what type of skin you have and what type of makeup you are wearing, it can come off altogether – which is not the look you want at all! Whether you are blessed with oily or dry skin, there are ways and means to keep that eyeliner on for longer, and maintaining gorgeous looking eyes throughout the whole day or night.

Here are a few tips to make your eyeliner stay all day long:

1. Wash Well- It is vital that you wash your face very well before applying any makeup, eyeliner included. An unwashed face will have oily residue from the natural oil that your skin produces overnight or during the day and it is crucial to get rid of this excess oil if you want your eyeliner to stay put for more than a few hours. Wash your face with your regular face wash and apply toner and moisturizer as normal and allow the moisturizer to soak into your skin before beginning your makeup application. This way, the makeup will have a relatively dry base on which to stick.

If you have oily skin, make sure you wash your face with an oil-free face wash and apply the same toner and moisturizer. When it comes to applying make-up, use oil-free products to prevent the build-up of oil on your skin throughout the day or night. Oil-free makeup also gives you a beautiful matte finish and helps eyeliner to stay in one place for longer.

2. Apply Primer- Once your face is washed and clean and you are ready to begin applying your make-up, first apply some primer to the eyelids before starting on the eyeliner application. Primer will form an excellent base for the eyeliner to stick to, ensuring a longer lasting effect. If you don’t have a good primer or cannot afford one, use a very light moisturizer which will help you skin to become soft and supple, which is what the eyelids need for the eyeliner to stay.

3. Go Matte- If you have oily skin, use an oil-free foundation on your skin before applying your eyeliner. This type of foundation creates a superb, oil-less base for the eyeliner and eye shadow and other types of makeup to stick to and will allow them to last longer throughout the day. Don’t forget to apply your moisturizer first, though, as some oil-free foundations can have a drying effect and cause your skin to look flaky after a few hours.

If you have dry skin, avoid using an oil-free foundation as this will have a counter-effect on the skin and make you look older than you actually are. Use a primer instead, as mentioned in the point above, which will work just as well as a good base for the eyeliner.

4. Powder Puff- An excellent make-up trick to ensure your eyeliner stays in place for a longer period of time is to use dab a small sprinkling of loose powder onto the eyeliner after you have applied it. The powder will hold the eyeliner in place and prevent it from smudging. Be very careful when applying the powder through as you don’t want to smudge the eyeliner in the process, particularly if you have used liquid eyeliner – allow the eyeliner to dry thoroughly before using the powder.

Expert tip! Make sure the powder is of a translucent or nude color tone – don’t use a dark color powder as this could ruin your look completely!

5. Avoid Layering- Don’t make the mistake of thinking many layers of eyeliner will make it last longer – it doesn’t and actually only creates a thick, messy look. If you want a heavier, thicker eyeliner look, rather apply a dark shade of eye shadow over the eyeliner after you have used it and this will create the darker look and allow the eyeliner to stay in place for a longer time without smudging.

6. Seal the Deal- Once your makeup has been applied and you are ready to go, spray some makeup sealer over your eyeliner and this will help to ensure your makeup stays where it is for the entire day, as well as giving you a fresh, ‘just-spritzed’ look.

Expert tip! Last, but not least, if you have very oily eyelids and none of these suggestions work, try changing to waterproof eyeliner, whose active anti-smudge formula will certainly keep it in place!
